Smart Cities: Viçosa S.M.A.R.T. as a catalyst for integrated urban development

This article examines the role of Smart Cities in urban planning and the integration of people, industries, and the city, focusing on Viçosa. As urban areas expand and resource demands increase, effective planning is essential for managing urban services. In Brazil, Sectoral Municipal Plans are key tools for guiding urban development collectively, though their implementation faces challenges. Smart Cities leverage Information and Communication Technologies to optimize urban planning and enhance quality of life by connecting devices and urban services on integrated platforms. The concept extends beyond digitalization, encouraging citizen participation and data-driven innovation for sustainability. The “Viçosa S.M.A.R.T. Program,” driven by tecnoPARQ, seeks to transform Viçosa into a smart, sustainable, and resilient city through collaboration among government, business, and society. The qualitative research includes a literature review and documentary analysis of municipal sectoral plans, aiming to identify challenges in implementing the project, especially regarding technology adoption, public management efficiency, investment attraction, and local innovation.
