After two years of virtual world conferences, the decision about where to meet in 2024 now that IASP members are back to in person meetings was even more exciting.

As global destinations for a member vote at the General Assembly, the two finalists were Nairobi in Kenya, and Québec City in Canada, who both showcased the best that their cities, countries and innovation ecosystems could offer to delegates and shared inspiring presentations about their bids.

But there could only be one winner, and IASP members chose to meet in Nairobi, Kenya, for our 2024 World Conference, with Konza Technopolis as our local host!

Kenya is one of Africa’s fastest-growing market economies, and is regarded as the economic, commercial, financial and logistics hub of East Africa. An emerging digital ecosystem helps to accelerate that growth, and to strengthen the culture of innovation.

The capital city Nairobi, where the conference will take place in the Kenyatta International Convention Centre, is a major centre for business and culture, multinational companies and international organisations, and is ranked as the best startup ecosystem in Africa after Lagos. Nairobi is already home to more than 30 tech hubs and incubators, as well as international investors and a young population with access to technology. It's also the only city which contains a National Wildlife Park, complementing Kenya’s tropical climate, white sandy beaches, rich wildlife environment and famous Rift Valley.

IASP members look forward to discovering the country, and getting to know Konza Technopolis. Known as Africa’s “Silicon Savanah”, Konza Technopolis is being developed as a sustainable economic hub and an area of innovation with a vibrant mix of businesses, workers, residents and urban amenities. It already plays a key role in the community as a sustainable technology hub and major economic driver. A Special Economic Zone and Kenya’s first smart city, it is located on a greenfield site close to Nairobi, and is expected to create 30,000 jobs and contribute 2% of Kenya’s GDP.

Warm thanks to both candidates for their great effort, and congratulations to all the team at Konza!
