Following recent severe flooding in southern Thailand, IASP members Prince of Songkla University Science Park (PSUSP) and The Regional Science Park Consortium have launched a Crisis & Resilience Management Programme to support SMEs and technology-based entrepreneurs affected by the disaster.
The programme provides a structured framework to help businesses restore operations, strengthen continuity, and build long-term resilience. Led by PSUSP and the Regional Science Park South, the initiative integrates technical recovery, business and market support, workforce reskilling, and access to temporary workspaces, laboratories, and pilot production facilities.
In addition to mobilising its infrastructure, networks, and partners to deliver immediate, people-centred support, PSUSP conducted rapid damage assessments and coordinated recovery assistance for SMEs across multiple sectors. Temporary business recovery and co-working spaces were established, and engineering teams and specialists were mobilised to assess, repair, and restore damaged machinery and production systems, reducing downtime and preventing further losses.
To support income recovery and market reconnection, PSUSP also contributed to the “Hatyai Return” initiative, curating products from affected entrepreneurs for public support through pre-order campaigns and on-site promotion, helping restore cash flow and business confidence.
Beyond immediate recovery, the programme invests in medium- and long-term resilience through skills training, workforce transition support, business continuity planning, mental health and morale programmes, and the development of disaster-risk management and flood-resilient business models for SMEs in the region.
The programme highlights the evolving role of science parks as critical regional actors, extending beyond innovation and commercialisation to include crisis response and long-term economic resilience amid growing climate risks.
