European Innovation Ecosystems unite to launch Campus Squared

A new international alliance, Campus Squared, has been officially launched, bringing together several of Europe’s innovation ecosystems in a shared effort to strengthen collaboration and accelerate innovation across borders. The initiative formalises longstanding relationships between campuses that host world-class research facilities, shared laboratories, specialist infrastructure and thriving communities of scientists and other stakeholders.

Campus Squared has been founded by five major innovation ecosystems, including IASP members: Adlershof Science and Technology Park (Germany), Harwell Science and Innovation Campus (England), High Tech Campus Eindhoven (The Netherlands), Switzerland Innovation Park Innovare (Switzerland), and Science Village (Sweden). Each campus representing their country and closely connected to major institutes and located near metropolitan areas that draw global talent. What unites them is the shared vision that intentionally managed campuses, designed to bring people, ideas and facilities together, can serve as powerful engines for growth. 

The purpose of Campus Squared is to create a platform where the leadership teams of these campuses can learn from one another, coordinate practical collaboration and develop a collective voice for Europe’s science and innovation ecosystem. By sharing strategic perspectives and insights, the alliance aims to help science-led companies move more quickly from experimentation to prototyping and scale. 

The launch of the initiative took place in Lund this month, where representatives from all founding campuses gathered at Science Village. During this meeting, delegates signed the collaboration agreement that marks the official launch and sets the agenda for joint work in years ahead.

Looking forward, the alliance will meet annually at rotating member campuses, reinforcing the idea that Europe’s innovation ecosystems can achieve more by working together than by acting alone. Campus squared represents a growing commitment to cross-border partnership, recognising that collaboration is crucial to turn scientific breakthroughs into global impact.
