A look ahead to IASP Luxembourg

As one IASP World Conference closes, another one begins, and our colleagues from Technoport were on stage at the conclusion of IASP Seville to give members and delegate a preview of what IASP Luxembourg has in store for us.

Technoport CEO Diego de Biasio and his team received the conference flag from Cartuja Science and Technology Park CEO Luis Perez, the host of IASP Seville, and shared a look ahead to our 2023 event, which will be IASP's 40th World Conference. Focused around the theme “Megatrends in Innovation Ecosystems: What are the impacts for STPs & AOIs?”, the programme will look to the future, and those long-term driving forces that are observable now, can be experienced by anyone in spite of regional differences, and will most likely have a global impact.

Megatrends tend to be stable over at least two decades, and robust to temporary setbacks. Experts in this field of research refer to four types of futures: the possible, the plausible, the probable and the preferred.

Science parks and areas of innovation around the world each operate in their own local context and within their own regional innovation ecosystem, but they are all facing the same global megatrends. Using the notion of megatrends and possible futures when designing and redefining STPs/AOIs and other global innovation ecosystems is key to future-proofing our industry, and ensuring we remain at the cutting edge of developing trends. IASP’s 2023 World Conference will consider questions of how STPs/AOIs are impacted by these megatrends, how they work with them and handle them, and the role they can play in shaping them.

He also introduced vibrant and cosmopolitan Luxembourg and its culturally exciting, laid-back, green capital city. With historical foundations and a UNESCO World Heritage site which encompasses the entire Old Town, culture and shopping for all tastes, it also has a rich and growing entrepreneurial ecosystem with Technoport business incubator at its heart.

Luxembourg may only be a small country, but it is extremely dynamic and multicultural. In a country with residents from 170 different countries, it’s no wonder that so many of the languages of the world are heard everywhere. Everything is within walking distance – restaurants, cafés, bars, museums and shops.
